FireFox Web Browser
Install and usage tips.
FireFox is an internet web browser which serves the same function as Internet Explorer. Note that many Services such as AOL, Comcast, MSN, Earthlink and others have Branded versions of Internet Explorer installed on your machine. For example, the Comcast link installed on your desktop by Comcast is a branded version of Internet Explorer. This means the normal Internet Explorer Icons and graphics have been replaced by Comcast versions. This is similar to Name Brand versus no-name products at the supermarket.
Why use FireFox?
- Less susceptible to hacker attacks (malware) than Internet Explorer (IE).
- More functionality then IE including:
- Tabbed browsing
- Freely available plugins for added functionality
- Pop-up blocking
- Download tool so downloads don't get lost
- Multiple tabs can be set as Home Page. All your main pages (email, news, work) come up at once.
Why to not use FireFox?
- There are still some sites out there which will only work with IE such as:
- The Windows Update web site
- Through the web anti-virus scan web site utilities.
