Multiple Home Pages

How to configure FireFox browser to open mutliple pages as your home page.

At the end of this tip, your browser will open all of your key web sites at the same time and within the same browser when you start up the browser or click the home button.

FireFox has a featured called Tabbed Browsing which means that FireFox can keep multiple web browser windows within the main FireFox window and let you switch between the different windows using notebook or binder style tabs. This is much quicker and easier than trying to use the limited space of the Windows task bar or opening and closing windows.:

Note: New tabbed windows are opened by using
'ctrl' 't' (t for tab) or you can open a
link in a new tab by 'right clicking' on the
link and selecting 'Open Link in New Tab'

This feature also allows saving a set of tabbed windows as a home page. This is what we will use for this tip.

Steps:

  1. Open FireFox. See installation instructions if it is not already installed.
  2. Type the name of your first desired home page in the address bar. Example: comcast.net
  3. After the correct page has loaded, use ctrl t to open a new tab. This will automatically place the cursor in the address bar ready for you to type the next address.
  4. Type the address of the next home page you desire such as the page for your online webmail. If you don't know the link but know how to get there from your first homepage, type in the address used in the first page then navigate to your 2nd desired homepage in the 2nd tabbed page you have open.
  5. repeat from step 3
  6. When satisfied with the set of tabbed web pages. Example: Your internet homepage on Comcast, your comcast email page, your yahoo page, ...

Use your mouse to open the FireFox, Tools menu, then select the Options entry.

  7. Click General in the left hand side of the Options box opened by the steps above.
  8. In the Home Page section, click the Use Current Pages button.
  9. Click the OK button to finish.

Congratulations now FireFox will open your saved set of pages everytime it starts up.
