[defrag]
A hard drive is like a city where each building is part of an application. Imagine having to drive all over town to do just your grocery shopping. A Defrag moves all of an tasks buildings into the same neighborhood allowing your shopping to be faster and more efficient.
[repair]
An MS Windows feature which installs Windows over top an existing Windows. This results in all of the newer and possibly broken Windows files being replaced with the original files. Your accounts and data are not touched. This creates new user accounts and ignores the old ones. This is like a repair but your data is still intact. Applications need to be reinstalled and old account settings copied to the new accounts. If you do not have the original install disks and license for an application, you may have to buy it again to have a legal installable copy.
[reinstall]
This is the equivalent of getting a new computer. All of your applications and data are erased from the computer. Everything is then installed from scratch. The end result is a computer with a clean fresh Windows operating system but none of your data or personal settings or applications. If you do not have the original install disks and license for an application, you may have to buy it again to have a legal installable copy.
